Community Lifestyle

A vibrant, growing community is at the heart of this award-winning estate and - with an extensive community creation program in place - the project partners are committed to supporting the ongoing development of an interactive neighbourhood at The Village at Wellard.

A range of opportunities are provided to encourage residents to meet and mingle with their neighbours, connect with local community groups and learn more about the estate and surrounding environment. These include community events, community art projects, a resident's community advisory group, community environmental reference group, playgroup and social sport and networking clubs.

The Wellard Community Pavilion, located on the sports oval on Wellard Road (download map), provides the perfect venue for community activities and there are also plans for a community centre in the future Village Centre.

The Village at Wellard isn't just about quality design and engineering; it's about people living together, interacting with each other in an environment of optimism; of economic growth and opportunity.

The Wellard Joint Venture, Peet Limited and Department of Housing, are committed to creating a great community life in the Village. Community consultants, Creating Communities Australia (CCA) work on behalf of the developer with the community to grow a vibrant, connected, interactive and safe community and to deliver a variety of community initiatives.

Ngulla Community Nursery
Ngulla Community Nursery is a wholesale plant nursery, located in Casuarina, Kwinana, 40 minutes south of Perth in Western Australia. The plant nursery was launched in August 2006 to grow native plants for The Village at Wellard and generate employment and work-based training opportunities for local youth, job seekers and the community.

The Wellard joint venture partners, Peet Limited and the Department of Housing in coordination with Creating Communities Australia were instrumental in the set up of this unique and award-winning community project. Over 40,000 native plants have been propagated by Ngulla and planted in the Wellard wetlands (Henley Reserve) as part of a rehabilitation program over the last two years. The five partner organisations managing Ngulla include Bridging the Gap, Wellard joint venture partners Peet Limited and the Department of Housing, Town of Kwinana, Medina Aboriginal Cultural Community and BHP Billiton Nickel West.
