Environment and Sustainability

Residents are connected to nature with 33 hectares of landscaped parks, 17 hectares of beautiful natural bushland and 10 hectares of conservation wetlands.

The Village at Wellard joint venture partners are committed to demonstrating best practice in sustainable development and continue to implement and support projects and programs that deliver benefits to the environment and the community.

A Community Environmental Reference Group has been established and residents, business owners and other community members actively participate in environmental programs such as fauna relocation and seed planting days.

At The Village at Wellard, particular emphasis has been paid to the preservation of key natural features, and balancing those with other design objectives through careful planning.

This has resulted in the estate already receiving a number of awards from a range of industry associations for its commitment to environmental, planning and landscaping excellence.

Enhancing the Environment

Designed with natural living and the environment in mind The Village at Wellard has;

  • 17 hectares dedicated as a Bush Forever site.
  • Two wetlands integrated into the estate’s open public space.
  • An active Fauna Management Strategy to relocate native animals.
  • The Ngulla Community Nursery, which now provides plant stock for the growing estate, as well as horticulture and natural resource management education training for local youth and the community.
  • Retention of a number of significant eucalypt trees, mostly Tuart and Jarrah.
  • A GreenCorps project supporting local youth working on a range of conservation works in the local community.
  • Ongoing involvement and community education about the estate's environmental initiatives.
